The Mara Yamauchi marathon workshop held recently and organised by Wiltshire RunTogether Activator Amy Chalk was a great success, with over 50 attending from many surrounding counties on Wednesday evening in Chippenham. Coaches, leaders and athletes were able to learn from Mara’s experiences as an athlete and now coach.

The two-time Olympian and the UK's second-fastest female marathon runner of all time, talked about all aspects of preparing for a marathon including training, race preparation, nutrition & hydration, rest & recovery and injury-prevention. Since retiring in 2013, Mara has qualified as a coach and also talked about her coaching experience.

Amy said, "It was great to see so many coaches, leaders and athletes engage in this workshop. I was on the same GB Ekiden Road relay team as Mara many years ago and remember her saying that she wanted to commit herself to her running. Look what she has gone onto achieve! I was very keen to get Mara to share these experiences and her coaching knowledge with the Wiltshire running community."
