Strideout running group stretch their legs in Sheffield
29 September 2014
Strideout Sheffield running group is currently expanding and now offering more sessions in Oughtibridge, Sheffield, as well as ‘Strideout Kidz’ which caters for children and parents in the Rivelin area of the city.
Based in Stannington, Sheffield, the group is a women’s-only running group offering sessions for beginners or ‘Strollers’ right through to intermediates and more advanced runners.
Strideout was originally set up in 2011 by a couple of mums who were dropping their daughters off at the Wisewood Sports Centre for a gymnastics club. It quickly expanded to be one of Sheffield’s biggest Run England groups with more than 200 members and trained Group Leaders.
The group actively use social media as a way to communicate to runners, by sharing messages of support, mapped runs and events they can get involved with.
Founder and Run Leader Andrea Barber said: “Running alone is my thinking time. It's how I keep all the balls in the air. It works my heart, my lungs, keeps me strong and balances out the extra things that find their sneaky way into my mouth!
“Running with Strideout enables me to motivate others to move a little bit more, believe in their ability to run and gives me a great sense of pride and achievement when they move on from beginners to intermediate and beyond. Love it!”
Group member Siobhan Mcfeely added: “I love to be outside, just running – sometimes on my own, sometimes with a friend and sometimes in a group. Wherever I go I take my running shoes and what a sense of adventure it is to put them on anywhere in the world and run. Running helps me to maintain a balance in my life, keeps my bones in better shape and helps keep me fit.
“Strideout is a fantastic, safe women’s running group that caters for all runners no matter their ability. I love running with other people and watch women improve their fitness and enthusiasm - I love the ethos of the group and how we look after everyone.”
Earlier this year, Strideout also helped Run England with a 'running mums' photo shoot, so thank you and well done to everyone at this thriving running group. If you're interested in finding out more about Strideout, visit their Run England page on our Group Finder map here.
