15 March 2017
International Women’s day took place last week and to kick it off, Mara Yamauchi - the UK’s second fastest female marathon runner of all time and a two-time Olympian - joined Common Runners RunTogether group for their morning run. Despite a downpour of rain it wasn't enough to deter the Common Runners from their weekly Social Run and over 25 ladies turned up.
Mara said, "It was really special celebrating IWD with such a vibrant and enthusiastic running group. Thank you to Common Runners for inviting me. Caroline is doing a terrific job encouraging women into running, and I'm sure this group will go from strength to strength."
Julia Bailey the Club and Coach Support Officer for South London commented, “We are celebrating International Women’s Day and it’s been great to see so many ladies getting out and running for fun and fitness we are very lucky to have Mara as a female role model for our sport to inspire women to achieving their potential."
