What is a Run England group?
27 February 2013
Run England aims to get the whole nation running. One way is by providing running groups led by qualified group leaders.
Once registered, groups are searchable at runengland.org/groups and group leaders have online access to guidance materials. You don't need to be a great runner to be a group leader, it's the enthusiasm and a desire to support others that counts.
Running groups are open to anyone, regardless of age, fitness level, aspiration, background, or location. They are there to provide anyone with the motivation, encouragement and support they need – from other group members as well as group leaders – to get running and to run more often in a relaxed, non-competitive environment. Many groups are targeted specifically at beginners.
Run England also supports affiliated athletics clubs in the provision of running groups to bring in an increasing range of people from the wider community.
People can also join Run England at runengland.org/join, which is completely free, and gain the benefits of being part of the national recreational running community – such as special offers and our regular eRunner newsletter.
There are currently 1,839 registered Run England groups all across the country from Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland to Penzance, Cornwall. Wherever you are in England, if you want to join a group, you are likely to be able to find one near you!
To find out more about setting up a running group, visit runengland.org/leader.
Joining a group is easy – first it’s just a case of finding a local group on our group finder map. From there you can contact the group leader who will be able to help. Alternatively, any Run England staff will be happy to help guide you in the right direction. Contact details can be found at runengland.org/contact.
For people who wish to run in their own time, with or without an organised running group, you can also search for your nearest distance-marked 3-2-1 route at runengland.org/routes.
