Amazing new running inspired show hits the stage

  

Theatres across the country will be showing a new running inspired show from BAFTA winning playwright Roy Williams OBE. Taken from the original novel by Alan Sillitoe, Williams has modernised The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner to fit within a contemporary setting.

Working with video projection experts, KMA Pilot Theatre alongside Roy's direction have created a unique set featuring an 8m treadmill. Elliot Barnes-Worrell, who plays Colin, actually runs a 5km race, real time, on stage.

The plot focuses on the inner dialogue of a young runner as he trains for a cross-country race. Colin, the main character, falls on the wrong side of the law and is placed behind bars and sees running as an escape, even if it is within walls.

The play has received fantastic reviews following the start of its tour. The Guardian said it "presented as an adrenaline rush of abstract thoughts pumping through the mind of the runner throughout the course of a race."
