Folks in the South Yorkshire area who are looking to get into some regular running will have plenty of opportunities to get involved in the coming weeks with new Run England Groups being set up as well as a chance to have some fun and learn a bit more about running as part of the London 2012 Open Weekend.

New Groups in Sheffield

Activity Sheffield, part of Sheffield City Council, is to set up two new Run England Groups in Sheffield.

Working in partnership with Run England, Activity Sheffield is setting up two new running groups in the North of the City. Both Loxley in Damflask and Coronation Park in Oughtibridge will see Run England Groups coming to their area this September. The Groups will be aimed at those with little or no previous running experience and aim to improve participants’ fitness and confidence to get them on track with their running.

Run England Group Leader Holly Reay said: “This is a great opportunity for us to take advantage of the light nights and exercise in some of Sheffield’s most scenic areas.”

To register your interest and be involved in deciding the Group’s meeting days and times, contact Holly on 07734595928.

Run England & London 2012

Run England will be holding taster sessions in Sheffield on Saturday 23 July as part of the London 2012 Open Weekend.

Teaming up with Sheffield Hallam University, Run England hopes to provide a coached jog/run around a 5k route around Endcliffe Park, during the park’s usual Saturday morning ‘Parkrun’ event, leaving at 9am.

The jog/run will be followed by an information stall and taster session on drills, stretches and running technique on a temporary running track which will be placed in Tudor Square (city centre) from 11am to 5pm.

The sessions are aimed at those who have little or no previous running experience, and aim to get people started and their pathway to regular running.

It will be free to attend and will be part of a whole range of events and activities taking place over the weekend.  It would be great to see you all down there as everyone celebrates the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games!
