Kingston running groups tackle original parkrun

Fifteen runners from running groups in Kingston, Surrey, turned out recently to test their fitness in the original parkrun in Bushy Park - and they weren't disappointed!

'Come and try it!' was the message that was sent to Kingston Runners and Kingston Crawlers Run England running groups in Surrey. 'It is really flat and loads of people of all standards run.'

But group leaders Barry Allan and Kate Brook were amazed that this was enough to inspire 15 runners to turn up for the 9am start and take part in the original parkrun at Bushy Park in Middlesex on Saturday 19 November.

Some runners were braving the 5km time trial event for the first time in their lives but even so, all the runners really enjoyed the race and were pleased with their performances, particularly group member Frances, who exactly equalled her previous pb – surely there's a prize for that?!

Some of the runners also vowed they’d be back the following week and the gossip following the whole occasion inspired others in the group to give it a go next time!

Joining a Run England running group can help with that extra bit of motivation - from fellow members - and with all-important training guidance - from knowledgable and qualified group leaders - to help anyone, regardless of running ability or fitness levels to improve their running.
