parkrun success for Run Hunwick

Members of the County Durham running group Run Hunwick took on one of their first major challenges this weekend by successfully completing a local parkrun.

Twelve members of the group attended the race, including eight who had never took part in an organised event before. All the members successfully completed the 5k course with times ranging from 19:07 to 34:22 – a great morning out was had by all!

The group has also recently been accepted as a London 2012 Gold Challenge facilitator where it will be supporting runners from the local area in raising funds for various charities under the initiative.

Group leader Mark Ketley – who started the group last August as a way of getting the local community together – said: “As a group it was agreed early on that we would set a race as our target, by taking part in the parkrun it gave members a chance to see how much they had improved during their first 10 weeks.”

Run Hunwick caters for all abilities, ages, sizes and shapes, and meets at Hunwick Community Centre every Thursday night at 6.30pm. For more information, contact Mark on 07878 459 392 or email runhunwick@yahoo.co.uk.
