Run England breaks landmark barriers
28 November 2012
Run England, the official England Athletics recreational running project, recently passed through the landmark figure of 30,000 members, many of whom are running with local running groups across the country.
Coupled with this, we also recently passed the 1,500 registered groups mark. Groups are led by qualified and insured group leaders and are a great way to get the support, motivation and guidance you need to start and indeed continue your running.
A huge thanks goes out to everyone who has signed up to Run England’s free membership and we hope the various incentives (such as £15 off Sweatshop running shoes and 15% off Sunwise sunglasses) and eRunner newsletters have been useful.
Thanks must also go to all the group leaders who lead running groups across the country and to the various partners we work with including County Sports Partnerships who have been working tirelessly to get more people active by joining registered running groups through Sport England funding.
To celebrate passing through these landmark barriers, we awarded our 30,000th member with a pair of Sennheiser CX 680 Sports headphones! Laura Shaw from Loughborough was the lucky winner.
Laura took up running in order to lose weight and having her daughter. A friend had seen local running group Sileby Start Running start up in her village and they both decided to give it a go. The pair continue to run and to date Laura has shed four and a half stone!
