First workplace running group in Manchester set up

A new running group has been set up at the new Manchester City Council offices on First Street in Manchester. The First Street Running Group will meet in the reception area of the building every Thursday and set off at 5.15pm.

Group leader Sara Perry lives locally and previously set up a successful group within the area. The group caters for all abilities and will feature a variety of sessions to help bring a freshened approach to running.

This would be the perfect opportunity for staff to unwind after work and enjoy a sociable run with colleagues and friends as well as having the obvious health and fitness benefits that running provides. With the Great Manchester Run 10K in May, it could provide the perfect stepping stone!

Although the group is intended for staff within the building and is one of the first workplace Run England groups set up in Manchester, anyone is welcome to join in, whether you live locally or are finishing work within the area at that time.

Liam Browne, the Run England Local Activator for Manchester, will be supporting Sara and said: “We are hoping to use the First Street Running Group as an example for other organisations to follow, as a running group for staff has the potential to boost morale levels and relieve stress at work. This is the first running group set up for Manchester City Council staff and there are already plans for more to be set up from various council offices.”
