RunTogether are delighted to announce our latest Kukri runner of the month winner, Katherine Megson. Katherine is from Morley Running Club (MRC). Katherine’s RunTogether award follows fast on the heels of her recent award ‘Club Runner of the Month’ at MRC.

Kukri have awarded Katherine an exclusive base layer to wear whilst training with her local running group on colder winter months.

Nominated by Paul B. Whitehurst

Paul was one of the MRC runner group founders and a Run Leader Mentor. Paul nominated MRC committee member Katherine for runner of the month following her hard training for the Outlaw X Triathlon. A fantastic achievement!

“I am absolutely delighted and extremely humbled to win the Run Together Runner of the Month award sponsored by Kukri, given that there are so many faster and better runners out there. However, by receiving these nominations reminds me that being a member of Run Together and a local running group, there is no elitism in running, just a love for the sport. Whether you run 1k, 5k or regularly run marathons, the running community accept that you are a runner and applaud you. Club running is so inclusive, and I would highly recommend it.”

Katherine joined Morley Running Club in June 2018 through Run Together and has built friendships and entered several races. “Whilst I have progressed over the years in distance, I have not improved much in speed! I could not have achieved as much if not for my running club and their weekly runs, plus additional unofficial runs with my running club friends.”

All RunTogether runner groups are fun and are a great place to meet fellow running enthusiasts.

Triathlon Training

Katherine took part in her first Triathlon Outlaw X Triathlon (1.2 mile Swim, 56 mile Bike, 13.1 mile Run. Training for her 70.3 distance triathlon meant even longer training runs on top of fitting in swimming, cycling and strength work. Running over 10km is not something Katherine claims to enjoy, but she has told us how great it is to have Run Leaders and her runner group supporting her journey.

Local running groups like the MRC are a great way to motivate yourself and train for races and events. If you are wondering how to start running or how best to prepare for an upcoming event, joining a running group is a great place to start. One of the MRC run leaders, Liz, was undertaking her England Athletics Coaching course at the same time as Katherine was training for her triathlon. She benefitted from this coaching training, especially with running up hills! And there are certainly a lot of them in Yorkshire!

Final Thank Yous

“I would like to give a big shout out to the Maroon Monsoon aka Morley Running Club, in particular all the Run Leaders especially Gary Penfold, Jim Megson (my hubby), Ewelina Kataryna Amrouche, Liz Ibbetson-Bristow and Katie Edwards-Fox for their encouragement on the longer runs and getting me over the line at the Leeds Half Marathon. Big thanks also go to my triathlon coach and my extremely loud support crew at Outlaw X, where I was on cloud 9 in seeing the finishing line”.
