Find A Guide Is Getting a Makeover

Find a Guide has been helping visually impaired people find guide runners across England to support them to run for nearly two years now. In this time we’ve trained over 1110 people on our Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running workshop and licensed over 720 guide runners. Since its launch in 2016 we’ve been listening to feedback about the database and have made some improvements to make it even easier for visually impaired people to find a guide runner and run, wherever and whenever suits them!

We’re currently updating the guide runners on the database by asking licensed guide runners to activate and update their profile. Licensed guide runners who have attended a Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running workshop and have a valid DBS check will have received an email with information about how to activate their guide runner profile and update their information. If you haven’t, please get in touch with us. On Tuesday 3rd April, with our partners British Blind Sport, we’ll be re-launching Find a Guide and promoting it with visually impaired people and visually impaired organisations.

What’s New:

We’ve made some changes to Find a Guide to hopefully make things even easier and more accessible for both visually impaired runners and guide runners. Here are just some of the changes:

  • Licensed guide runners can login and update their information.
  • Find a Guide supports people to run with others so the database will join our RunTogether website but can still be found on the England Athletics site, British Blind Sport site and various partner sites.
  • Licenced guide runners can add a photo (optional) and a description to tell people about themselves, and what sort of guide running they’re available for (for example regular training, one off events, beginners etc.).
  • Licensed guide runners can mark themselves as unavailable to run during times of injury etc.
  • Visually impaired people using the database will be supported with what sort of information would be useful to include when they contact a guide runner.
  • Filters have been provided to help visually impaired people find a guide runner most suitable for them.

Help Us Spread The Word

From Tuesday 3rd April 2018 we’ll be promoting Find a Guide to visually impaired people and organisations to try and get more people running. We’d love it if you could help us spread the word, so that more visually impaired people know there are guide runners out there ready to support them to run. We’ll relaunch Find a Guide on social media along with a short video. Share the video and post on social media using #FindAGuide.

We are keen to feature Find a Guide on as many relevant websites as possible so that visually impaired people can search for guide runners directly. If you would like a widget for your website, please contact us. If you’ve got any questions, please contact Liz Purbrick, Inclusion Manager, 07850514936.

Thank you for supporting visually impaired people to run.

This group run at a steady and sustainable pace, ideal for those looking to run their first 10K or a little further. "MoJo Running and Fitness is a fun and dynamic running group for ladies of all ages and abilities - from beginners to seasoned marathon runners. MoJo puts great emphasis on being an all inclusive running group, so we have at least two coaches on every run to allow all levels of runners to be supported and enjoy their run. No one is ever left behind to run on their own.

Like a family of friends MoJo runners love to do events together whether it is The Great South Run, The Big Half, The London Marathon or local fundraising runs. We even put on our own community fun runs to support members or loved charities. We have a social side to our running too.
