June 2018 News

We listened to your feedback...

Thank you for all your feedback about how we can improve the Run Leader app and make it easier to use. We're delighted to let you know that the following updates have been made, with further enhancements planned next month:

More runner information: the check-in screen now shows the number of previous sessions each runner has attended and highlights ‘new runners'.

Add sessions: a new ‘My Groups' area allows you to add sessions as well as inspect your groups and existing runs.

Cancel sessions: if you need to cancel a session, simply swipe left on the 'My Schedule' screen or tap the new '...' button at the bottom of the check-in screen and select 'cancel session'. You can then send an email to your registered runners to let them know.

Easier contact look-up: when adding runners to your sessions the ‘look-up' screen is presented first to allow easier access to existing contacts.  You can also search by email address.

To start enjoying the updates, simply log in to the app and click ‘Install'.

Tell us more!

THANK YOU! In February’s newsletter we asked for your participation in an exciting piece of research that we are involved in with partners from the University of Birmingham and the University of the West of Scotland. We had a fantastic response with around 500 people completing the survey.

The research is designed to better understand your experiences as either a Runner or Run Leader to help us understand why social running groups have the potential to be so beneficial and allow for more groups to be promoted to enhance health and well-being. It will also help us to provide RunTogether Leaders with better support, advice, and training in the future.

As part of this research, we invited you to take part in three surveys during 2018 (February, June and October). The June survey is now live, and we would love everyone to be involved, whether you completed the first survey in February or not.

This is an independent study and under no circumstances will your individual responses be shared with RunTogether staff, nor will responses be shared between Run Leaders and running group participants.

GROUP OF THE MONTH: RunTogether SE Fitness

CONGRATULATIONS to our committed runners and leaders at Sutton Park.  As you'll see from their photograph, when 'the beast from the east' hit England, their fabulous team of Run Leaders didn’t miss a session, they simply put their hats, thermals and trainers on and met their runners with enthusiastic smiles!

They also have walking groups to help all the locals get out and be active and have sessions listed on their page right up to November, making it easy for new and existing runners to book on and check-in to sessions.

Keep up the great work, SE Fitness!

If you'd like to nominate your group to win this highly acclaimed title, email us telling us why your group deserves to win at support@runtogether.co.uk.

Reach more runners with accessible communications!

The information you send out or display about your runs is a vital part of the RunTogether experience so it's important that every communication, whether it is a calendar of events, a poster or a newsletter, reaches the widest possible audience.

However, there are a number of different factors that prevent some groups of people or individuals from receiving or understanding communications. The way in which disabled people access communications may be different to non-disabled people; and people with different impairments have different needs or experience different ‘barriers’ to accessing your information.

There are approximately 11 million disabled people in the UK – so as a group, disabled people are a large part of your potential audience. Ensuring the information you share is inclusive will make it more accessible and easy for everyone to understand.

To help you ensure your communications are as accessible as possible, we highly recommend taking a look at the video and PDF resources created by the Active Alliance (previously known as EFDS).

WIN 10 RunTogether t-shirts!

We love capturing fun video boomerangs on our visits to RunTogether Groups, which you can find on our social media channels. Now it's your turn! Record your most fun and creative boomerang before the end of the month and either post it to the RunTogether Facebook page or tag us in your post on Instagram. We'll select and announce the winning video on 2nd July and reward the winner with 10 RunTogether t-shirts for their group.

For anyone not familiar with video boomerangs, they are short snippets of video repeating a forward and back sequence multiple times. To enter the competition, simply download the Boomerang app, capture your video, then upload it to your preferred social media platform.

For inspiration, take a look at the videos on the RunTogether Facebook and Instagram pages. Entries close 30th June 2018 and the standard England Athletics competition terms apply, available here.
