Nutrition for healthy running

Good nutrition can play a key role in your running performance and while we agree it can be a complex and personal area, understanding the basics will help. Sports like running can place additional demands on the body in terms of energy and nutrients and so a healthy, balanced diet is particularly important.

#RunAndTalk says "Thank You"

It is hard to believe another Time to Talk Week has come and gone; but it will not be forgotten. For those of you who participated in our #RunAndTalk runs during the week of 2nd-8th February; we say "thank you".

RunTogether and England Athletics supported by Mind, the mental health charity will continue to need you to support #RunAndTalk to help people improve their mental well-being through running and to break down the stigma associated with mental health by getting people talking about it.

8 ways to build your confidence in the gym

When you’re entering a new environment, it’s only natural to feel a little scared or intimidated - and gyms are no different.

Watching people lift impossibly heavy weights and run for miles without breaking a sweat is enough to make the best of us lose confidence in ourselves, let alone a gym newbie.

Don’t let those worries fool you, though. Gyms are designed to be a safe space where everyone can join in to hit their own personal health and fitness goals. So, to help you feel at home when working out, DW Fitness First have created a list of ways to help you feel less self-conscious and more self-confident.

Group of the Month Penkridge Runners

Congratulations RunTogether Penkridge Runners!

At the start of 2018 this group introduced a Couch to 5k programme to encourage beginners to start running.  12 people completed the course and smashed their first 5k last Easter, these runners  continue to be dedicated members of the group and some have gone on to complete their first 10k.  Last year their active members rose to 95, with an average 49 people turning up to each session.

Due to the success of the Couch to 5k in 2018, they are now hosting another programme for 2019, where 34 have already signed up to work towards the 5k goal. Now with 136 runners in total and an average of 91 people attending each session, the supportive and friendly atmosphere is helping many runners make friends, build confidence and have fun.

Runner, Leah,  describes the group as 'one of the best things' she has 'ever done' and Sam says running has helped her 'overcome stress and anxiety'. It is no wonder that this group  is growing from strength to strength.
Keep up the amazing work!

Are you part of a group who has a growing community of supportive runners? If your Run Leader checks everyone in using the Run Leader app and you think you deserve to WIN the GOTM title in March, then email us HERE.
