Leicestershire Run Leader Forum Inspires more leaders to become mental health ambassadors!
25 January 2017
Another hugely successful Run Leader Forum was held in Leicestershire on Thursday focussing on mental health. 19 Run Leaders attended the inspirational session which was planned by running activator Kim Angell - who also provided her trademark delicious cakes!
Kim did a quick talk at the beginning regarding the England Athletics Mental Health Ambassador Role and the #runandtalk sessions and asked the leaders to have a think about it during the workshop. The workshop was received really well, it was very interactive and everyone got the chance to get involved.
The #runandtalk campaign aims to improve mental health through running in England by:
- getting people talking about mental health, sharing their experiences and removing stigma
- raising awareness of mental health problems
- supporting people experiencing mental health problems to be physically active through running, whether that is to support them in starting, returning to or continuing to run
Following the workshop Kim had 6 individual clubs/groups approach her requesting to become Mental Health Ambassadors. The Squirrel's running group also went straight home and registered a #runandtalk session with other clubs and groups saying they would get them registered soon.
Kim Angell said, "All in all I am really pleased with how the whole evening went and the positive feedback we have received from the Run leaders - it was well worth putting the workshop on and it linked in so well with the #runandtalk campaign which is on at the moment."
