The National Trust at Lyme Park in Stockport is offering a host of great opportunities for anyone who wants to try running to experience the stunning parkland and get fit for the summer at the same time!

parkrun

The site hosts a parkrun event every Saturday at 9am, which welcomes more than 120 runners, walkers and joggers, as well as their families, supporters and volunteers every week. Runners showing their bar code at the Timber Yard Café can benefit from a special meal deal of a tea or filter coffee and sausage or bacon sandwich for £5 between 9:30am and 10:30am each Saturday.

The free, weekly timed run is open to runners of all abilities and is the second parkrun in the Cheshire East area, as well as one of 13 weekly parkrun events held on National Trust properties. The new parkrun has been supported by Persimmon Homes, Peaks and Plains Housing Trust, The National Trust, The Cooperative Community Grants, the local running community, Poynton Town Council and Disley Council.

Lyme Park Joggers groups

From Wednesday 9 April Lyme Park welcomes the return of its Wednesday evening Lyme Park Joggers group, starting at 6:30pm! With the clocks going forward the groups’ friendly, qualified run leaders can help motivate you to spring into action and get fit for the summer! Running in Lyme Park is an ideal place to take advantage of the lighter evenings and enjoy stunning views, see the deer and appreciate all of the seasonal bloom!

Lyme Park has three groups per week, all aimed at adults starting out running or returning after a long absence who wish to build up their fitness and stamina towards running 5K. The Lyme Park Joggers groups are fun, free and take place on Thursdays and Sundays at 9:30am and on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm. All groups meet at the Timber Yard and last about an hour.

Family Xplorer activities

Lyme Park is also launching a fun family challenge called Xplorer from the beginning of April. On the first Saturday of the month from 10am to 12pm families can have fun together exploring the park, finding the markers and completing the challenge. Using a simple map, families can be active in the outdoors, be closer to nature and learn new skills too!
