Group leaders help make Run England training day a hit

With the popularity of the Bristol and Bath Half Marathons increasing each year, it seemed a good idea for TeamBathAC and the Avon Athletics Network to hold a half marathon training day in Bath on Sunday 20th November.

Whilst the Network covered the admin and venue costs, TBAC provided LiRF qualified group leaders for the morning runs and the speakers for the afternoon, which meant their members could attend for half price!

The TBAC sponsors, Lucozade, also provided a products for runners to help them with both training and recovery, which proved very popular on the day.

A broad group of runners registered, with about half from the local club, and they selected one of three paced runs suitable for themselves, followed by some stability and core work back at the King Edward’s School Pavilion at Bathampton.

After lunch the speakers, all of whom are TBAC members, came to the fore, and what a group of individuals to have:

  • England Athletics NCM for Endurance, Martin Rush (pictured top leading a stability session- not dancing at all!), led the discussion on training methods for 10k and Half Marathon
  • Holly Rush (European Championships Team Medalist, and Commonwealth Games Marathon runner) gave her thoughts both on her training regime and also on coming to competitive running as an adult
  • Renee McGregor stripped away some of the myths around nutrition to give some down to earth ideas on using everyday foods to improve both training and recovery.

Feedback from the group has been very positive, and planning for the next day, in the New Year, is already underway. If you would like to read more from a participant, Bo Novak attended and wrote a great blog. Click here to read it.
