Young sprint star opens new 3-2-1 running routes in Greenwich!
14 June 2013
A talented young athlete was on hand to cut the ribbon as three new 3-2-1 running routes were recently opened in Greenwich, London.
The marked out routes in Sutcliffe Park are suitable for walkers, joggers and runners of all abilities and cover distances of 0.5 miles, 1K and 1.25K, also allowing for easy measuring of longer distances such as 1 mile, 3K and 5K.
Talented young sprinter Daryll Neita from nearby Cambridge Harriers was the guest of honour alongside local councillor Peter Kotz. Also there to celebrate the official opening was Sutcliffe Park track manager Mik Courtney and Claire Riddell, group leader for Sutcliffe Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday running groups, and Chris Bond, group leader for Running Sisters running group. Members of both groups and Cambridge Harriers were also there to celebrate, alongside Run England Activator Lynne Atkinson who mapped and planned the routes.
Daryll is the 2012 UK School Games and English Schools 100m champion. She won the latter in a championship best performance of 11.63 ranking her in the top 10 in the world for her age group!
Five Run England running groups are already making use of the new routes, including: Sutcliffe Tuesday at 6.45pm; Sutcliffe Thursday at 6.45pm; Sutcliffe Saturday at 10.30am; Sutcliffe Junior Running at 12pm on a Saturday; and the Running Sisters at 6.45pm on a Thursday.
These groups cater for all abilities and meet each week at the track reception. There’s also a new Buggy Runners running group due to start, which will be on a Thursday at 11.15am. It’s all go at Sutcliffe Park!
Claire Riddell said: “I think the routes will be ideal for beginners allowing runners to easily chart their progress.”
