Run England Inspires Sheffield Runners

Six members of Activity Sheffield (Sheffield City Council) have set up a running group after the encouragement and support they received in the run up to the Clumber Park Race for Life 10k last weekend.

The ladies, who are all non-runners, teamed together and completed the distance in under one hour thanks to help from a local Run England Group.

Extremely nervous about taking part in the event, they turned to Run England for some advice and support in the lead up to the race, and they were not let down.

One member the group, Kim Ashmore, said: "I was really nervous about taking part in the race as I have always found running quite challenging. I went along to my local Run England Group who helped me get started on some basic training which gave me a huge confidence boost. I was shocked to hear that I managed to complete the race in under one hour!"

After talking to their local Run England Activator, Emma Slater-Clayton - who also took part in the event, the ladies have decided to set up their own lunch time running group from the Activity Sheffield offices.

Sheffield is a real hotspot for Run England. If you live in the South Yorkshire area, or anywhere in the UK, and would like to join a Run England Group, you can find out more about the benefits that free membership has to offer at www.runengland.org/join, or contact Emma at eslaterclayton@englandathletics.org.
