Spectators urged to show support at Admiral Swansea Bay 10k
23 September 2011
This weekend sees the running of the fourth race in the 2011 runbritain Grand Prix. The ever popular Admiral Swansea Bay 10km road race has almost 4000 entrants and organisers are hoping for a large turnout of spectators to encourage the runners as they make their way along the course!
The Admiral Swansea Bay 10k takes place on Sunday 25 September and will see thousands of entrants from across the UK converging on the Welsh city for one of the UK’s top road races. It is kindly sponsored by Admiral Group and supported by Bay Radio, Active Swansea, Road Safety, Days Motor Group, Subway, Swansea Marriott and Unilever.
Spectators are encouraged to support the runners and will be able to enjoy a comprehensive pre-event warm-up and plenty of entertainment, stalls and a mascot race.
The race follows a nice flat and scenic course along the picturesque sweep of Swansea Bay and includes those running for charity along with more experienced athletes, some celebrities and those simply taking part for fun.
In addition to the main 10k event there will also be a 10k wheelchair race along with four junior age group races covering 5k, 3k and 1k. There's still time for children to enter one of the junior races with entries open on the day but hurry up mums and dads because this is only if spaces are still available!
Nigel Jones, Special Events Manager, said: "The race is now widely recognised as one of the best of its kind in the UK and it is fantastic that the 2011 Admiral Swansea Bay 10K is featuring in the inaugural runbritain Grand Prix running series."
"The Admiral Swansea Bay 10K attracts a wonderful mix of seasoned athletes, fun runners and people raising money for so many worthy causes.
"Furthermore, it is a family-friendly occasion which generates a terrific atmosphere for people of all ages and it has become an important fixture on Swansea's annual events calendar. I'd urge people to come along, watch the races, support all the runners and enjoy the occasion."
