We're Taking Part In #runandtalk. The Question Is Will You?
#runandtalk week is back!
From Saturday 27th January - Friday 2nd February 2018, & we need your help! The campaign is supported by Mind, the Mental Health charity, to improve mental wellbeing through running. It's all about getting people talking about mental health, sharing their experiences, removing the stigma and supporting people experiencing mental health problems to start, return to and continue running.
We are asking ALL Run Leaders to register a run for #runandtalk week. Runs can be registered for FREE through Survey Monkey. Anyone who is a qualified LiRF Run/Group Leader or part of an EA Affiliated Club can lead a run to raise awareness of mental health; this is a great opportunity for you & your runners!
All runs must be registered between Monday 8th-Thursday 18th January.
From the 18th January, anyone can sign up to join the run you have registered through Meetup. Whether they are part of a RunTogether Group or just have a keen interest in #runandtalk, we are encouraging everyone to take part!

Let's Talk About Mental Health
To support Time to Talk Day we’re asking Run Leaders to start talking about mental health and encourage people to use running to support mental wellbeing.
The term ‘mental illness’ can sound quite scary to many of us, but the truth is mental illness is very common with 1 in 4 of us in the UK affected each year– that’s approximately 15 million of us! Mental health conditions do not discriminate – they affect people of all ages, genders, sexualities and ethnic groups. They do not care if you are rich, poor, successful, married or single – they really can affect any one of us. Mental health conditions are characterized by alterations in our
thinking, mood or behaviour, and include illnesses such as anxiety, depression, addiction, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, schizophrenia or eating disorders.
Despite a huge amount of work being done to raise awareness of mental health conditions, there is still a great deal of stigma surrounding mental illness.
Speaking about mental health shouldn’t be seen as being scary, taboo or something to avoid as the reality is mental health conditions are part and parcel of everyday life.
All of us, at some point in our lives, will be touched either directly or indirectly by mental illness so it’s important to speak openly about these conditions and help address the stigma.
