Join Paul for his 50 marathons in 50 days
11 August 2016
England Athletics Coach in Running Fitness and runner Paul Lewis is currently undertaking a challenge to run 50 marathons in 50 days! Now on day 20, his daily average finish time stands at 4 hours per day.
Time is running out - if you'd like to accompany him for some distance, all or of one of his daily efforts in London and then Jersey and Guernsey from next Monday - finishing in Hackney for Day 50 - go to his online schedule.
He is raising money for The British Red Cross, having seen the lifesaving work they do, when he served in the British Army in the Balkans in the mid 1990s.
Some of the questions he's asked include:
- YES I am running every single day with no day off for good behaviour.
- NO you do not have to run a whole marathon with me to get one of the special limited edition 50/50 medals. A £10 donation and at least 1 mile is perfectly fine.
- NO I have no support team/drivers/publicist/masseur/sponsors but any offers gratefully entertained.
- YES I am 50 years old.
- NO I am not spreading the miles throughout the day over several runs nor I am taking an hour's stop for lunch. I start the marathon, I run, I stop. 'Pauses' to grab water, cross the road, say hi/bye to people joining in or leaving the run etc are averaging at only about 2-3 minutes per run [apart from a whopping 9 minutes on the first week when the temperature was 30 C and for safety sake I had to hit the water fountain every mile]. These pauses are included in the time for the run ie the watch isn't stopped for any pauses.
