Flying Coach visit for Run England Group Leaders
27 January 2014
Group leaders in South East London were recently treated to a ‘Flying Coach’ visit from top endurance running coach Nick Anderson, who shared his vast knowledge and experience at the Run!-organised event.
Nick – an experienced coach to multiple international runners – visited Erith Leisure Centre for the Run England Group Leader’s Development Workshop, organised by the local Run! Athletics Activator, Lynne Atkinson, for group leaders in South East London.
England Athletics’ Flying Coach Programme, supported by Sweatshop, is being delivered across England to benefit clubs, coaches and athletes of a variety of abilities, across all disciplines. Under the scheme, top coaches visit local clubs to work directly with club coaches and assist with the development of their athletes, to help develop coaching expertise in a particular technical event in a practical coaching environment.
Participants received advice on progressing runners from 5K to 10K, with some great ideas for different types of sessions and advice on incorporating mixed levels of ability within a group. There was also a practical session on the track which focused on specific running drills.
All the group leaders were pleased with how productive the session was and Jane Greenfield of JanesRunners said that both her and husband Phil, a support leader for the group, said: “We really enjoyed the session, Nick is an excellent speaker.”
If you are interested in starting your own group in the London Borough of Bexley, you can contact Lynne on firstname.lastname@example.org or if you live elsewhere, find out more about becoming a group leader at www.runengland.org/leader.
