Running for everybody one step closer with Run England
26 January 2012
Run England’s aim is to help provide running for everybody through fun and friendly local running groups with qualified group leaders and we’re getting closer and closer to our goal all the time.
None other than Steve Cram – British running great of the 1980s – recently praised the efforts of Sunderland Harriers who have set up new Run England groups to get people ready for the new Marathon of the North and the Sunderland City 10k.
Now is an important time for Run England with a number of local launches taking place around the country (story coming soon - keep checking the news page!).
Watch the short YouTube video below with some of our members who run at Sutton Park in Birmingham to get an idea of the feel good feeling that Run England is all about!
In the short time we’ve been ‘running’, more than 14k people and joined up for our free membership and there are now just about 700 running groups across the country, all led by qualified and insured (and fantastic!) group leaders who have completed the Leadership in Running Fitness course.
We’ve also built up a vibrant online community with more than 4k Likes on Facebook and 1k followers on Twitter... and it’s evident that runners love to talk, so do join the conversation and get involved.
Joining a Run England group near you can help give you the motivation and safety you need whether you are beginning your running journey, have got a taste for running and would like to improve or if you’re returning to running after a long layoff. You can find your nearest running group using our Group Finder map at runengland.org/groups.
Run England is the official England Athletics recreational running initiative which aims to get the nation running. Regardless of your age, fitness level, aspiration, background or location you can be a part of England’s running community.
