17 November 2011
Bisi Imafidon is a teaching assistant by day and in her spare time she leads two Run England groups in Newham as well as a Sport for Women running group in Tower Hamlets. In addition to this, Bisi is Coach and Club Secretary for local club East End Road Runners and Coach and Running Liaison Officer for Keep It Simple Triathlon Club. Busy Bisi took the 60 second challenge and here is the result!
RE: Why do you run?
BI: I run to keep fit mentally and physically. If I have had a stressful day I can put on my trainers and just run to clear my mind. Running helps me maintain my fitness.
RE: What is your favourite place to run?
BI: Anywhere as long as it is outside
RE: What has been your most memorable running moment?
BI: My first 5K – Race for Life Hampstead Heath July 1999 when I fell in love with running. Up until that point the only running I had done was chasing after my children. The sense of achievement I felt when I crossed the finished line has stayed with me to this day. I still have the clipping of the article that appeared in the local newspaper.
RE: What has been your most satisfying experience running?
BI: Dec 2006. Running alongside a friend who was convinced she could not complete her first half marathon. We finished in less than two hours and to top off the day I received the news that I had been awarded a London Marathon club place!
RE: Biggest pet peeve with running?
BI: Lack of public toilets (especially for women).
RE: Favourite food to fuel your run?
BI: Porridge, toast with peanut butter.
RE: Running hero?
BI: I have two – Ethiopian distance running legend Haile Gebrselassie and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt - both poetry in motion.
RE: Best advice for new runners?
BI: Joining a Run England group is one of the best ways to get active, get fit, have fun and run!!
RE: Running ambitions?
BI: To continue to introduce the local community to running and make a life changing and empowering difference.
