Be Back to Fit

Be Back to Fit with the Dark Fate Challenge

To celebrate the launch of this autumn’s must-see action movie, Terminator: Dark Fate, DW Fitness First have created 5 exclusive fitness programmes plus The Dark Fate Challenge, the ultimate fitness challenge.

Each Back to Fit programme has a set goal in mind, whether that’s working your way up to completing the Dark Fate Challenge itself, losing weight or increasing overall strength and fitness.

The Dark Fate Challenge consists of 8 exercises against the clock, testing your strength, speed and stamina, so whether you’re sprinting or leaping through explosions, the challenge will put you to the test to see if you have what it takes to face the Rev-9 head-on.

Safety is a top priority

Running at night comes with its own set of challenges: from terrain, to lighting and safety. With experience, you will get ever more comfortable with the sensation of night-time running, so as the darker autumnal nights draw nearer, don’t let that stop you from pulling on your trainers and joining your fellow runners.

Being able to hear at night is extremely important for your safety, so keep your ears free and open to the sounds around you.

Running with AfterShokz Aeropex , which are the latest flagship headphones from AfterShokz featuring advanced bone conduction technology, allows you to hear everything around you, while also listening to your tunes, podcasts, and audiobooks.

Use EA20 to get a pair of Aeropex for yourself at AfterShokz website: aftershokz.co.uk

We Are Undefeatable

A major new campaign has been launched to support the 15 million people who live with one or more long-term health conditions in England. We Are Undefeatable aims to help those with conditions such as diabetes, cancer, arthritis and Parkinson’s to build physical activity into their lives. The campaign is led by a collaboration of 15 leading health and social care charities along with support from Sport England.

To support the campaign UK Coaching have provided a guide to coaching people with long term health conditions. The guide can help all Run Leaders to support people living with a health condition to take part in running.

Unsung heroes of the month

Congratulations RunTogether Coulsdon Runners, you have WON the September GOTM title!

Coulsdon Runners are a relaxed running group based in Coulsdon, South London. They offer an 8-week beginners' running course as well as two intermediate running groups a week.  They also meet at weekends for longer runs to prepare their runners for any events they have signed up to. Group member, Louise, emailed us to let us know why they deserve to win. She said ‘It is just the most supportive and encouraging group ever! We have runners progressing from complete beginners to running 5k without stopping. Our runners from intermediate groups always volunteer to help at these sessions, running in the middle of the group and we always have a volunteer tail runner. There are Intermediates sessions where no matter the level of the running everyone works hard and to their own level. We also have weekend long runs, and had several runners train for and complete the London Marathon this year. Everyone supports each other - whether joining another on a training run, running with them to help get a PB at a race, coming and cheering and supporting at events - or simply drinks together and supportive texts and Facebook posts. They are simply the BEST.'

Well done Coulsdon Runners, you have won one pair of New Balance trainers.

Congratulations Wendy Cook, you are our Run Leader of the month!

Nominated by runner Rebecca from RunTogether Rushmere Community Runners.
The group are a free running community that meets twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and has multiple Run Leaders to support their runners. Rebecca said about Wendy: ‘She is an amazing lead and constantly inspires anyone who joins the fabulous fun filled weekly social runs. She's got her own incredible journey to share, starting running only a couple of years ago, transforming herself, and now building up to an ultra!! She oozes love for running. On top of this she puts her heart and soul into being a great Run Leader to help others achieve their own personal goals. She plans the most fabulous routes for our group, building in elements specially for those of us in the group to keep us loving our weekly jaunts. It is truly wonderful to see how far we have all come, and new members are welcomed with open arms and supported and encouraged all the way round. Currently we're running the best trail routes, opening us up to the beautiful countryside on our doorsteps that we never knew existed.’ Rebecca goes on to say how she didn’t expect to find a love for running when she first started Couch to 5k in January of this year. She said ‘the absolute best part of the week is our Thursday social runs with Wendy, she is truly amazing!’

Well done Wendy, you have won a pair of New Balance trainers.
