Harness your running habits

Running habits

Our busy lives make it sometimes challenging to get out for a run or go to the gym.  Whether it is working, seeing friends/family or general day-to-day life admin,  we can struggle to fit it all in!

Our retail and fitness partner, DW Fitness First offer their advice on one thing you can do to change your life: harness the power of habit.

When you think “habits”, you may automatically prefix it with the word “bad”. But forming habits is actually one of the best ways to make a real, lasting change.

Our 100,000 RunTogether Runner

We recently celebrated our 100,000 runner registered with RunTogether. Maggie from RunTogether Run Fit Chorley was our lucky milestone runner and as a result was awarded a pair of trainers and a voucher courtesy of our retail and fitness part DW Fitness First as well as a pair of headphones from Aftershokz.

Maggie said, "I used the voucher to purchase a fitbit. Now I can track my fitness progress; but as far as my health and well-being, I know how good I feel since I got back out running with the group. It was refreshing to see more new members and everyone supporting, motivating and encouraging everyone on."

Thanks for sending in a picture of your new trainers, Maggie. Wishing you and your group the very best on your running journey.

Our special RunTogether session @ Manchester International

On Wednesday 14th August we hosted a special RunTogether session at the England Athletics' Manchester International Event.

Runners from various RunTogether groups across Manchester joined us (and Leonard the Lion, the England Athletics mascot) for a 5k run around the Etihad Stadium. All 22 runners supported each other through the wet and windy conditions, followed by watching some track and field athletics inside the Manchester Regional Arena.

Special thanks to Pat, Thomas and Molly for leading the session. We hope all the RunTogether community enjoyed the evening as much as we did!

DW Fitness First - Group of the Month, GMCR Runners

Congratulations to RunTogether GMCR Runners.

RunTogether Get My Community Running, were nominated by runners Claire and Amy. Commenting on their group, they said: "The couch to 5k group has been extremely successful. The group organises extra events for the runners' children so the group has a real family feel and all are welcome. The runners regularly come together and are warmly welcomed by all." Claire describes the group as "diverse, inclusive and one big family."

Amy credits the Run Leaders, Becky and Guy as "fabulous people with endless supply of energy and enthusiasm." She describes the group as having "changed the lives of so many people within our community'." She goes on to say that  "it’s a totally inclusive environment and everyone is welcome. In this day and age where people don’t communicate verbally, it’s simply breathtaking how running as a group can change peoples' state of mind for the better."

"It's great to see how many people enjoy the work the group do, with a Couch 2 5k session every week on a 10 week programme. It is fantastic that the sessions are for everybody, regardless of experience or ability. "

Congratulations once again GMCR, keep up the great work! One pair of Brooks Runnning Ghost 12, trainers courtesy of Brooks and DW Fitness First, will be on their way to you.

DW Fitness First - Run Leader of the Month, Andy Raju

We were inundated with nominations for Andy, Group Leader of Run with Andy

Floyd said: "Andy provides a non pressured and friendly environment. He is a wonderful ambassador for the running and walking community. Under his leadership and guidance the group have been doing a new brilliant trail walking scheme for the summer and his routes and guidance are amazing." Runner, Chike said: "he offers great advise and is very supportive of his team members."

Gene and the other runners went on to say how welcoming the group is, particularly if you are new to RunTogether.  She said: "his sessions are very relaxed and non-pressured, perfect for anyone who wants to train effectively in a calm and composed manner."

Andy embodies the values of a RunTogether Run Leader and on top of all that, he recently introduced 'plogging', which means runners walk/run whilst picking up litter. What a positive way to help the environment. Congratulations Andy; we think you are a very deserving winner of Run Leader of the month. One pair of Brooks Running Ghost 12 trainers courtesy of Brooks and DW Fitness First, will be sent to you.
