The annual ‘Working Well Knowsley Active Challenge’ took place in the beautiful surroundings of Knowsley Hall on Tuesday 21st June.

130 Juniors participated in a 2k run around the estate, whilst 250 ran in the 5k challenge. The 5k race was open to individual runners, whilst local businesses were encouraged to enter teams of 4 colleagues (to include a minimum of 1 female runner) to try and encourage healthy lifestyles in the work place.

Knowsley Hall is not open to the public, so it gave local runners the rare opportunity to race in spectacular scenery by kind permission of Lord Derby. Well done to all who completed this year’s challenge.”

Knowsley Harriers AC have recently been working in partnership with Volair Ltd (the local authority trust who provide leisure services in the borough) to develop aspects of the club through external funding. The borough was successful in obtaining Community Sports Activation Funding through Sport England and they have been using this funding to develop good club infrastructures and sustainable activities.

The Harriers have recently benefited through the fund by allowing 4 club coaches to attend the Leadership in Running Fitness course to support the many different ability groups that the club operates on training evenings. The junior section has also been assisted through support of the venue costs in delivering coaching sessions to young people and increasing participation among this age group in running.
