Alfie's Striders raising funds and fitness

On 29th July 2010, Alfie Gough passed away at the age of 2 years old from Stage IV Neuroblastoma.  Understandably, this was a life changing event for Alfie's parents: Dean and Sarah.  To ensure that the spirit of Alfie lives on and to help other families going through similar experiences, Dean and Sarah set up The Alfie Gough Trust: a charity looking to improve the quality of life for children with Cancer. 

To commemorate the life of Alfie Gough and to help raise funds for Alfie's Trust, Charlie White, Head of Fundraising at the Trust and a qualified Run England Leader, has organised The Alfie Gough Memorial Run.  This is a brand new evening event in Kent which will take place on 29th July 2015 at King George VI Park in Ramsgate.  It is intended to help raise funds to continue the Trust’s invaluable work. On the evening, there will be a choice of 5k or 10k routes plus a children's fun run.

As a Run England Leader, Charlie White has also set up a local Group: Alfie's Striders.  The Group is open to all abilities, offering  free sessions for anyone who wants to take on the 5k or 10k challenge on the 29th July.  Charlie took up running in 2007 and it changed his life forever. He is now keen to support other people on their running journey and help them achieve their goals whilst celebrating Alfie’s life.

Charlie commented, "We want all our events hosted by The Alfie Gough Trust to be in the spirit of Alfie: fun, happy and family-focused.  I've run several marathons myself to raise funds for the Trust but the Memorial Run and the Running Group mean the whole community can get involved.  Please do get in touch if you want to train with us before the event. It promises to be a special evening for everyone".

Lucy Tomlinson, Run Kent Activator stated, "Many of our Run Leaders and Groups in Kent have, and continue to raise much needed funds for worthwhile causes.  As we know, running is a great way to raise money - we just have to look at how much the London Marathon has raised over the last 34 years and I'm sure this year's event will be no different.  The Alfie Gough Memorial Run may not be on the same scale but everyone who takes part in July will be helping to raise funds for the Alfie Gough Trust.  I'm sure it'll be a fun event for the whole family".
