Bexley Run England pilot benefits the whole community

The Bexley Run England pilot shows you how running can benefit the whole community - delivered in partnership with Bexley Mencap. From a taster to weekly sessions, a regular number of adults from Bexley Mencap are finding out how much fun a Run England group can be and how running can improve their fitness.

The participants report  that  it helps keep them fit and lose weight, and it's very sociable.  Meeting and making new friends and urging each other on is a great incentive.  In fact many used to take the bus down and now they walk!

Run Leader Michelle who runs AthleFIT and other Run England groups in the Borough said, "It has a massive impact - the majority of people who started were mostly inactive.  They get so much out of it, they come every week so you know they are getting a lot from it.  They love it, they get a lot from it and so do I."

Run England Activator for Bexley, Lynne Atkinson said, "This was a pilot project but we are hoping it will spread wider throughout the country."

Watch the video below to see how well the project has been going.  Click here to read the report about setting up the pilot group last May.
