Milton Keynes running club doing great work for beginner runners

Just two weeks ago Milton Keynes based running club David Lloyd Redway Runners started a new 10 week beginners course... and they have been amazed by the interest it's had with over 30 people attending each session!

The running group has grown from just 12 members in its first course in January 2011 to over 250 a little over a year later. The group now takes part in many runs across the UK and have two trips abroad each year. The club decided to set up beginner courses at the start of the year after support from Abbi McMullen - the Run England local activator for Buckinghamshire. The club trained a number of group leaders to support new runners into their club and after a successful morning course decided to also run an evening course.

The aim of each course is for all runners to all able to complete the MK 5k parkrun by the end of the 10 weeks. The club members support the beginner runners, and at the end of their last beginner’s course, current members of the club each buddied up with one of the beginners and ran the parkrun with them which really helped their confidence.

The courses are led by group leader Nicky Double who at the weekend completed her first marathon in Milton Keynes. She took up running three years ago using the programme she now uses for her beginners so is a great role model!

To join David Lloyd Redway Runners you do not need to be a member of David Lloyd and more information on the club is available at www.Redwayrunners.com.
