Official entries for the Bupa Great North Run have closed, but Run England running group members who are looking to take part in an event may still have the chance to do the race as part of ‘Team A’.

Arthritis Research UK still have guaranteed places available for the largest half marathon out there. It takes place on 18 September, which leaves plenty of time to get some runs in with your group!

Held in South Shields, Newcastle, the race attracts around 54,000 runners from all across the UK and abroad. Many of the people who take part not only soak up the fantastic atmosphere and rub shoulders with many of the celebrity runners, but also make a real difference by raising funds for charities.

Arthritis Research UK is the leading authority on arthritis in the UK, conducting scientific and medical research into all types of arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions.

Hayley Burnham (pictured), from Hartlepool, is taking part in the Bupa Great North Run and said: "I have chosen to run for Arthritis Research UK because my role as a Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialist has given me firsthand experience of arthritis, I’m very aware how disruptive and painful this condition is."

If you’re tempted on securing your place in the race through ‘Team A’, get involved by calling the events team on 01246 541108 or email events@arthritisresearchuk.org. But hurry, places are limited and the deadline for entries is 8 July.
