Like many runners who enjoy exercising outdoors, you will be aware of the hazards and dress appropriately, investing in the right shoes and high-vis clothing, but do you include your headphones in this mix?

Considering the safety concerns of runners who benefit from running with music, Sennheiser make headphones fit for purpose; that not only handle sweat and rain but also allow external sound to filter in to make runners more aware of the environment around them.

Now, in partnership with UK app company Essency (www.essency.co.uk), they have developed a new and innovative iPhone app specifically designed with runners' safety in mind.

The new app is appropriately named ‘Awareness!™ The Headphone App’ and it monitors outside noise via headphones featuring an in-line mic. If a specified sound level is reached, the outside noise (car horn, lorry etc) is transmitted into your headphones making the runner aware of potential dangers. Awareness! works with Apple’s iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, iPod Touch 4 and Touch 3 (with a headset) and will be available for Android next year.
